This is Picasso's famous painting called Guernica is representative of the effects of the war upon servicemen, especially within the Vietnam War.
I believe this is a great representation of the poetry Komunyakaa often writes, as the poetry is often just as abstract, if sometimes greater than the painting made famous by Picasso. Much of his poetry tends to take on this complicated and often awkward phrasing.
This complicated structure is identifiable under the Jazz movement in accordance to the horrors of war, as both are seen with improvisational movements and stanzas, using juxtaposition to the author's desire. The painting above is comparable to much of Komunyakaa's poetry in that it is abstract, not formed by opinion or practicality, but still represents something meaningful.

This is the artwork called New Orleans Cityscape by Debra Hurd. This is very representative of the Jazz movement, with a mixture of abstract and flowing colors to represent things of real life in ways that may not be readily seen within the realm of reality.
The colors on the painting are exaggerating certain colors to bring out a cool and relax feel about the perspective given. Such rhythm within this painting is also seen within Komunyakaa's written artwork, with the words exaggerating certain aspects which a reader may view as artwork to the eye as well as the mind.

Below is a Youtube Video of some music that is obviously Jazz. Listening to this while reading some of Komunyakaa's works will prove that his writing exhibits some song like, Jazz improvisation qualities.
