Yusef Komunyakaa is a poet from the late 1900’s that is
commonly associated with the Jazz movement within poetry. He is considered one of the southern poets of the modern time, and writes extensively to the effect of the wars he went through, mainly the Vietnam War, of which most of the poetry within the book “Neon Vernacular” was written about. His poetry tends to push the writing style of the Jazz movement with the effects of the war mixed about. A secondary example of this Jazz style work with a twist more towards the Civil Rights era would be the poetry of Kevin Young. These two authors share a quaint similarity between their writing styles, tending one to believe they are both affiliated with this same Jazz movement, although with slightly different outlooks on how to use the movement to their respective benefit. Kevin Young is represented by my Project Partner Marcus Bracey, and a link to his page is seen in the button below. |
